The Aims of Lansbury Voices

Lansbury Voices is a development of the first Lansbury Voices project that took place within the Lansbury Festival in 2001 when local people acted as guides and presenters. The story so far...

Group meetings usually take place one evening each week for two hours: the organisers and volunteers also work outside this time, for example with meetings with clients and partners. There is a management meeting once a month.

Current Projects

Lansbury Voices are developing a programme of activities that will take place in venues on the Lansbury Estate and in other places such as the Museum in Docklands. Part of the development is to look for people who have an interest and therefore wish to research into the history of the area, to interview older residents or to present these stories to others.

We are working up several projects and have drafted budgets and key events timetables. The projects are inter-linked and will provide material that can be added eventually to this website (and a new multimedia archive).

The Reminiscence Project

Reminiscence projects, working with "Magic Me" on inter-generational projects, we will link up with existing youth and older people activities and then to follow on with introductory workshops with Age Exchange. We expect that these will enable us to develop materials that we can take onto another stage - exhibitions, websites or performance.

Lansbury Tours

Pop(u)lar Hellos. Introductory tours of the estate for new residents giving local orientation along with information on the history and architecture of the estate.

SS Robin tours

We have been supporting The SS Robin by training volunteer guides to show visitors around as well as giving tours from the Summer of 2003 through the Spring of 2004.
